Narrative:
Exiting from ramp gate at bdl to taxi to runway 24 via taxiway C, hold short of taxiway south. There is no taxiway sign at the intersection of runway 15-33 and taxiway south. However, there is a taxiway sign at K. A taxiway designation short of a runway is more important than a taxiway in the middle of 'nowhere.' callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter pointed out that: taxiway 'south' is actually the outer edge of the ramp. He said there were no signs to tell a pilot taxiing out on taxiway 'C' where taxiway 'south' was. (The hold short of 'south' was to permit arriving traffic to exit runway 24 at 'south'). Reporter contends that there should be a 'taxiway south' sign in the grass just north of the intersection of taxiways 'C' and 'south.' reporter has already advised his company and bdl ground controller of the problem. The airport advises that a sign, similar to that suggested, is planned during the current airport signage update project.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALLEGES THAT SOME NECESSARY TAXIWAY SIGNS HAVE NOT BEEN INSTALLED AT BDL.
Narrative: EXITING FROM RAMP GATE AT BDL TO TAXI TO RWY 24 VIA TAXIWAY C, HOLD SHORT OF TAXIWAY S. THERE IS NO TAXIWAY SIGN AT THE INTXN OF RWY 15-33 AND TAXIWAY S. HOWEVER, THERE IS A TAXIWAY SIGN AT K. A TAXIWAY DESIGNATION SHORT OF A RWY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A TAXIWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF 'NOWHERE.' CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR POINTED OUT THAT: TAXIWAY 'S' IS ACTUALLY THE OUTER EDGE OF THE RAMP. HE SAID THERE WERE NO SIGNS TO TELL A PLT TAXIING OUT ON TAXIWAY 'C' WHERE TAXIWAY 'S' WAS. (THE HOLD SHORT OF 'S' WAS TO PERMIT ARRIVING TFC TO EXIT RWY 24 AT 'S'). RPTR CONTENDS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A 'TAXIWAY S' SIGN IN THE GRASS JUST N OF THE INTXN OF TAXIWAYS 'C' AND 'S.' RPTR HAS ALREADY ADVISED HIS COMPANY AND BDL GND CTLR OF THE PROBLEM. THE ARPT ADVISES THAT A SIGN, SIMILAR TO THAT SUGGESTED, IS PLANNED DURING THE CURRENT ARPT SIGNAGE UPDATE PROJECT.
