Narrative:
We were in radio contact with approach control just approaching janny intersection, out of 8600. A transmission regarding traffic was blocked. I told approach and it was repeated. At the same time, TCASII called 'traffic, traffic' and the display indicated a yellow DOT at our 1-2 O'clock position at about 2 mi with no altitude information. Visual contact with a climbing, right to left small aircraft type twin was acquired. It immediately became quite apparent that in order to avoid a possible collision, the only action was the climb. I assisted the copilot in pulling back on the control column and we passed about 200 ft directly over the top of the aircraft. It is unknown if the other aircraft ever saw us. A near miss was filed with approach upon arrival at burbank. I was at first skeptical about having another 'block box' in the cockpit, however, this is without any doubt a prime factor in us being able to avoid what potentially could have been a disastrous situation.

Title: AN MLG ACFT TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AT THE SUGGESTION OF TCASII EITHER TO CREATE AN NMAC OR PREVENT A MID AIR COLLISION.
Narrative: WE WERE IN RADIO CONTACT WITH APCH CTL JUST APCHING JANNY INTXN, OUT OF 8600. A XMISSION REGARDING TFC WAS BLOCKED. I TOLD APCH AND IT WAS REPEATED. AT THE SAME TIME, TCASII CALLED 'TFC, TFC' AND THE DISPLAY INDICATED A YELLOW DOT AT OUR 1-2 O'CLOCK POS AT ABOUT 2 MI WITH NO ALT INFO. VISUAL CONTACT WITH A CLBING, R TO L SMA TYPE TWIN WAS ACQUIRED. IT IMMEDIATELY BECAME QUITE APPARENT THAT IN ORDER TO AVOID A POSSIBLE COLLISION, THE ONLY ACTION WAS THE CLB. I ASSISTED THE COPLT IN PULLING BACK ON THE CTL COLUMN AND WE PASSED ABOUT 200 FT DIRECTLY OVER THE TOP OF THE ACFT. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE OTHER ACFT EVER SAW US. A NEAR MISS WAS FILED WITH APCH UPON ARR AT BURBANK.
