Narrative:

On a flight from easton to martin state, I had planned a flight around R-4001B when right of elk river and abeam deer northeast of phillips AFB I experienced electrical failure followed by a burning popping sound that I could not stop or identify. Phillips was the only field that at the time I thought I could reach without incident. The sounds led me to think the plane was on fire or ready to start any min. I had lost radio and navaids so no communication with phillips was made. I landed the plane safely and filed a report at phillips and decided to takeoff cautiously to see if I could fly it to martin state. 7/92 carburetor heat defective/possible ground strike.
