Narrative:
Approached las vegas international from the southeast entered TCA, and did not receive clearance. Approached within 15 mi before radio contact. At the altitude of 6500 ft I thought the mountains were blocking the transmission. The problem was with the radio #1. Switched to #2 and received approach. Received clearance into TCA, and was set up to a downwind to 19R. As I approached the left base leg, the setting svn was at 12 O'clock. I had no visibility other than off to my left, 'south.' as I was looking off to my left, I saw 19L, and what I believed was 19R. After landing I realized that I landed on the center taxiway. As I pulled off the taxiway, I called tower and reported that there was an airplane back taxiing on 19R. At that time tower inquired, 'did I land on the taxiway?' summary. No accident occurred, no near misses. In fact, if not reported by me, tower would not know this incident occurred.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THIS RPTR LISTS 2 PROBLEMS: INITIALLY, HE ENTERED A TCA WITHOUT CLRNC BECAUSE HIS #1 RADIO WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY, AND THEN HE LANDED ON A TAXIWAY BTWN THE 2 RWYS. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT, DAMAGE, OR INJURY.
Narrative: APCHED LAS VEGAS INTL FROM THE SE ENTERED TCA, AND DID NOT RECEIVE CLRNC. APCHED WITHIN 15 MI BEFORE RADIO CONTACT. AT THE ALT OF 6500 FT I THOUGHT THE MOUNTAINS WERE BLOCKING THE XMISSION. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE RADIO #1. SWITCHED TO #2 AND RECEIVED APCH. RECEIVED CLRNC INTO TCA, AND WAS SET UP TO A DOWNWIND TO 19R. AS I APCHED THE L BASE LEG, THE SETTING SVN WAS AT 12 O'CLOCK. I HAD NO VISIBILITY OTHER THAN OFF TO MY L, 'S.' AS I WAS LOOKING OFF TO MY L, I SAW 19L, AND WHAT I BELIEVED WAS 19R. AFTER LNDG I REALIZED THAT I LANDED ON THE CTR TAXIWAY. AS I PULLED OFF THE TAXIWAY, I CALLED TWR AND RPTED THAT THERE WAS AN AIRPLANE BACK TAXIING ON 19R. AT THAT TIME TWR INQUIRED, 'DID I LAND ON THE TAXIWAY?' SUMMARY. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, NO NEAR MISSES. IN FACT, IF NOT RPTED BY ME, TWR WOULD NOT KNOW THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED.
