Narrative:
On jul/xx/92 the controllers began operations from the new dallas love control tower. The equipment we used in the old control tower was very old and just about ready to croak. The new tower has the latest high-technology equipment and radar. The problem is, none of us controllers have had any training on the new equipment. No training at all! We built this multi-million dollar complex with state-of-the-art electronics and only a couple of supervisors who used this equipment at other facilities know how to use it. I compare it to taking an small aircraft pilot and putting him in an fgt and say go for it. We are responsible for separating aircraft for the flying public and we aren't even trained how to use our equipment. Our quality assurance specialist has done nothing towards our training on the new equipment. He has just a few months left before retirement and could care less. We did get a book in the tower on the icss equipment. It is not very realistic to tell aircraft to stand by, I have to read my book on how to use my equipment. Our manager doesn't seem too concerned about any of this because he only has a few months left before retirement also.
