Narrative:
While being vectored for landing we were given VFR traffic, under ATC control and 500 ft below us. We never saw the traffic but got an RA on the TCASII to pull up at about 1200 FPM. We did so and advised phx approach that we had a TCASII RA and were climbing. Phx approach advised that the traffic was under his control 500 ft below us. We returned to our assigned altitude when the RA ceased, and never saw him visually.

Title: MLG ON VECTORS TO FINAL HAS TFC CALLED 500 FT BELOW. TCASII TA, THEN RA, CLBS. NOT SIGHTED.
