Narrative:
Takeoff runway 27 at waukesha. Tower said 'right turn out approved, traffic ahead is remaining in the pattern.' had traffic in sight prior to rotation. My plane has no forward visibility, especially in a climb, so an early turn is better than a late turn where you may hit the slower traffic ahead. Made right turn immediately after takeoff and as we passed through the right downwind path, a saw the closed traffic referenced by tower about 1/2 mi to our left entering the downwind. There was no conflict and plenty of separation considering VFR pattern, but this was a confusing situation and tower may have been pissed with me cutting through their pattern. Recommendations: tower give pattern direction of closed traffic ahead, or say, 'right turnout approved behind traffic ahead.'
