Narrative:
We taxied for takeoff on runway 36. After crossing all intervening runways and taxiways, we pulled into line #4 for takeoff (1 engine running, takeoff confign). All this time tower cleared us for takeoff. The captain taxied on #1 engine while I started #2 engine and completed the checklists. As we approached the runway the captain turned slightly right to be able to use all the runway. At this point the aircraft sitting #1 asked us to stop. We stopped, checked the wings, turned a little left and stopped. Tower had cancelled our takeoff clearance even though we were over the hold line. At this time another airliner landed and we took off. Lesson learned: don't hurry, refuse takeoff clearance, and don't taxi while 1 crewmember can't clear the taxi route.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG TAXIING AROUND HOLDING TFC ONTO RWY CUTS CORNER TOO CLOSE FOR THEIR COMFORT.
Narrative: WE TAXIED FOR TKOF ON RWY 36. AFTER XING ALL INTERVENING RWYS AND TAXIWAYS, WE PULLED INTO LINE #4 FOR TKOF (1 ENG RUNNING, TKOF CONFIGN). ALL THIS TIME TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. THE CAPT TAXIED ON #1 ENG WHILE I STARTED #2 ENG AND COMPLETED THE CHKLISTS. AS WE APCHED THE RWY THE CAPT TURNED SLIGHTLY R TO BE ABLE TO USE ALL THE RWY. AT THIS POINT THE ACFT SITTING #1 ASKED US TO STOP. WE STOPPED, CHKED THE WINGS, TURNED A LITTLE L AND STOPPED. TWR HAD CANCELLED OUR TKOF CLRNC EVEN THOUGH WE WERE OVER THE HOLD LINE. AT THIS TIME ANOTHER AIRLINER LANDED AND WE TOOK OFF. LESSON LEARNED: DON'T HURRY, REFUSE TKOF CLRNC, AND DON'T TAXI WHILE 1 CREWMEMBER CAN'T CLR THE TAXI RTE.
