Narrative:
Upon clearing runway, requested directions to transient parking -- reply was that newly surfaced ramp and some taxiways were closed, park anywhere in grassy area at north end of field where there was a tie-down. Proceeded to turn off taxiway onto grass to reach a hard-surface tie- down. The right outside wheel and tire struck the concrete edge of a man-hole. The tire and wheel was damaged sufficiently to require replacement. Factors: airport was not notamed reference: ramp/taxiway closures or construction. Airport personnel and manager were unaware of obstruction/hazard. Hazard was unmarked. Poorly maintained grass (even though directed there) obscured the fact that the ground was 4 inches below the concrete edge of the man-hole. 2 days after reporting this to the airport, the hazard was marked by 2 posts.
