Narrative:
While en route to houston from alexandria a fluctuation in np was noted in the left engine. This condition became much more pronounced during descent. After np fluctuations exceeded 1 percent and torque exceeded the caution range, the QRH was consulted. After trying the solutions stated and having to effect the engine was shut down as recommended.
