Narrative:
While receiving radar advisories en route from ZFW on flight from hou to ftw, was advised to contact ftw approach for descent into ftw, call made approximately 41 mi from dfw which is 11 mi from TCA. Copilot was handling communication while I was talking to FBO on unicom listening to ftw ATIS. Controller had radar contact and transponder squawk and told us to 'stay clear of TCA. Remain VFR.' I heard him to say 'clear into TCA remain VFR' flew into TCA without clearance due to miscom. I asked copilot if we were cleared in before entering and she said 'no, I told you we weren't.' apparently, I was so used to the standard 'cleared into the TCA' response from the controller that I assumed on hearing the word 'clear,' that it meant proceed as usual. Shouldn't have been listening to ATIS and talking on unicom that close in. Solution is to listen up, always.

Title: CPR ACFT ENTERS TCA WHEN INSTRUCTED TO REMAIN CLR.
Narrative: WHILE RECEIVING RADAR ADVISORIES ENRTE FROM ZFW ON FLT FROM HOU TO FTW, WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT FTW APCH FOR DSCNT INTO FTW, CALL MADE APPROX 41 MI FROM DFW WHICH IS 11 MI FROM TCA. COPLT WAS HANDLING COM WHILE I WAS TALKING TO FBO ON UNICOM LISTENING TO FTW ATIS. CTLR HAD RADAR CONTACT AND TRANSPONDER SQUAWK AND TOLD US TO 'STAY CLR OF TCA. REMAIN VFR.' I HEARD HIM TO SAY 'CLR INTO TCA REMAIN VFR' FLEW INTO TCA WITHOUT CLRNC DUE TO MISCOM. I ASKED COPLT IF WE WERE CLRED IN BEFORE ENTERING AND SHE SAID 'NO, I TOLD YOU WE WEREN'T.' APPARENTLY, I WAS SO USED TO THE STANDARD 'CLRED INTO THE TCA' RESPONSE FROM THE CTLR THAT I ASSUMED ON HEARING THE WORD 'CLR,' THAT IT MEANT PROCEED AS USUAL. SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO ATIS AND TALKING ON UNICOM THAT CLOSE IN. SOLUTION IS TO LISTEN UP, ALWAYS.
