Narrative:
Approach gave us a missed approach of 2000 ft heading assigned by tower. Tower asked us what heading approach assigned us. We said approach said you (tower) were supposed to assign the missed heading. Tower said, fly runway heading 1600 ft, contact approach 119.4. We missed, called approach and said let's fly altitude assigned by approach since we're talking to them. Approach asked if we were originally assigned 2000 ft on missed approach we said yes. They said ok, climb and maintain 3000 ft. If it sounds confusing it's because it is. I wish either tower or approach would assign missed approach but not altitude by one and heading by the other and certainly not conflicting! I just decided to do what the guy with the scope said to do.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: COMMUTER ACFT PREASSIGNED MISSED APCH ALT OF 2000 FT BY APCH, HDG TO BE ASSIGNED BY TWR. TWR GIVES HDG BUT DIFFERENT ALT.
Narrative: APCH GAVE US A MISSED APCH OF 2000 FT HDG ASSIGNED BY TWR. TWR ASKED US WHAT HDG APCH ASSIGNED US. WE SAID APCH SAID YOU (TWR) WERE SUPPOSED TO ASSIGN THE MISSED HDG. TWR SAID, FLY RWY HDG 1600 FT, CONTACT APCH 119.4. WE MISSED, CALLED APCH AND SAID LET'S FLY ALT ASSIGNED BY APCH SINCE WE'RE TALKING TO THEM. APCH ASKED IF WE WERE ORIGINALLY ASSIGNED 2000 FT ON MISSED APCH WE SAID YES. THEY SAID OK, CLB AND MAINTAIN 3000 FT. IF IT SOUNDS CONFUSING IT'S BECAUSE IT IS. I WISH EITHER TWR OR APCH WOULD ASSIGN MISSED APCH BUT NOT ALT BY ONE AND HDG BY THE OTHER AND CERTAINLY NOT CONFLICTING! I JUST DECIDED TO DO WHAT THE GUY WITH THE SCOPE SAID TO DO.
