Narrative:

Being vectored by ny ATC south of rbv, asked for left turn around thunderstorm. Was denied because of traffic. Requested 2 more times. Was again denied. I told ATC I was turning right to 180 degrees to avoid WX. Once clear, I told ATC they could turn us as they wished. On approach, ATC told us to call the center on the ground. I did as requested. The supervisor I spoke to said, I screwed up their traffic and would have preferred us to fly through the thunderstorm than hit another aircraft. I told them we cannot fly through thunderstorms and safety of the aircraft and passenger was my #1 concern. ATC does not have WX radar. This must be a problem for them vectoring aircraft through WX. Filed report with company and dispatch.
