Narrative:
While being guided into gate at ict, just about 1 1/2 ft from stop point, #1 engine sucked in the air conditioning duct from an external heater cart which was hidden from view by the jetway cabin attendant shadow. (Bright light inside open cabin attendant and very dark night). Engine was at idle. As soon as I heard the noise, I immediately stopped aircraft and shut engine down. At the same moment, I received an emergency stop signal from guideman although aircraft was already stopped and engines shut down. Heater cart was known to be there by ground crew. I believe it should have been parked in another location. There should also be equipment clear lines on ramp.
