Narrative:
During level off at 15000 ft MSL, AC generator failed. This resulted in loss of engine intake heat to right engine. Requested a return to msp (from msp center). Also told center I would like to remain on top (tops 9000 ft) to stay out of ice. Also had center advise msp approach I wanted priority handling to reduce operating time in icing. When handed off to msp approach they had declared emergency. Landed without incident. (Was an emergency declaration necessary?)
