Narrative:
While the mdt was parked in yvr a belt loader slowly approached the aircraft's cargo bay and just tapped the lip of the frame. The first officer witnessed this and concurred with the ramper that it barely tapped it. Closer investigation showed that the coaming was bent in about 1/4-1/2 inch and the outer skin stretched slightly around the area. It did not involve any of the main structure or any part of the locking mechanism for the door. We operated the door to ensure that there was no obstructions to its functioning and that the door seal would not sustain any damage. All cockpit indications showed normal. It was a beautiful clear blue, smooth day and I felt that there was no question of the safety of the flight. The flight progressed normally. The next stop was sea where we have a maintenance facility. Upon arrival I had maintenance come out and take a look at the aircraft. After maintenance conferred with maintenance control they determined that the aircraft should be ferried to pdx.
