Narrative:

While holding short of runway 20R on B5, tower informed us that they needed to resequence us and instructed us to cross 20R and hold short of 20R on A6. (Actually, clearance was to cross 20R, make the left and hold short of 20R on the next taxiway to the left.) once stopped, bna tower then cleared us to 'cross 20R and report clear.' just prior to this incident, the captain was talking about a very similar earlier situation where the crew almost taxied off the edge of the runway. T2 is directly across from A6. Unless you are familiar with the fact T2 does not intersect with the runway due to the crown in the runway, and the visible section of T2 at night is not visible until your aircraft clears the crown of the runway thus allowing your lights to illuminate the east edge of the runway, it appears that T2 might intersect with the runway. As we entered the runway, we questioned the tower on what they wanted since we could not 'taxi across.' they instructed us to turn right and get off at the next taxiway and to expedite. Eventually tower issued a go around to landing traffic. I believe tower's clearance to cross 20R at A6 could sucker a crew into exiting the runway at other than a taxiway. It also sounds like this clearance has been given more than once!

Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 20R ON B5, TWR INFORMED US THAT THEY NEEDED TO RESEQUENCE US AND INSTRUCTED US TO CROSS 20R AND HOLD SHORT OF 20R ON A6. UNLESS YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE FACT T2 DOES NOT INTERSECT WITH THE RWY DUE TO THE CROWN IN THE RWY, AND THE VISIBLE SECTION OF T2 AT NIGHT IS NOT VISIBLE UNTIL YOUR ACFT CLRS THE CROWN OF THE RWY THUS ALLOWING YOUR LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE THE E EDGE OF THE RWY, IT APPEARS THAT T2 MIGHT INTERSECT WITH THE RWY. AS WE ENTERED THE RWY, WE QUESTIONED THE TWR ON WHAT THEY WANTED SINCE WE COULD NOT 'TAXI ACROSS.' THEY INSTRUCTED US TO TURN R AND GET OFF AT THE NEXT TXWY AND TO EXPEDITE. EVENTUALLY TWR ISSUED A GAR TO LNDG TFC. I BELIEVE TWR'S CLRNC TO CROSS 20R AT A6 COULD SUCKER A CREW INTO EXITING THE RWY AT OTHER THAN A TXWY. IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE THIS CLRNC HAS BEEN GIVEN MORE THAN ONCE!
