Narrative:
Between silex intersection and the buddle OM, we received numerous TA's on our TCASII. Constantly looking for the traffic caused by local traffic and van nuys airport made just plain navigating difficult. Approaching buddle, we were given a heading for the intercept. After acknowledging, we received a TA that turned to an RA and 'monitor vertical speed' was announced by the TCASII. The traffic was depicted climbing from our left off of van nuys airport and headed for us. I turned right which was declared clear by the first officer. The first officer, who was working the radio, was unable to get a word in until ATC asked where are we going? We explained, then he said we have traffic off our right and that's who he was worried about. Suddenly the ATC controller had all the time in the world to explain. He vectored us around and we landed without incident. We had the traffic off our right the whole time. Our concern was the impending collision off van nuys. The solution: ignorance is bliss -- eliminate TCASII or close van nuys.

Title: AN ACR MLG HAD LTSS WITH AN UNDEFINED ACFT APCHING BUR. THE ACR RPTING ACFT DEVIATED ITS COURSE TO AVOID A MIDAIR COLLISION.
Narrative: BTWN SILEX INTXN AND THE BUDDLE OM, WE RECEIVED NUMEROUS TA'S ON OUR TCASII. CONSTANTLY LOOKING FOR THE TFC CAUSED BY LCL TFC AND VAN NUYS ARPT MADE JUST PLAIN NAVING DIFFICULT. APCHING BUDDLE, WE WERE GIVEN A HDG FOR THE INTERCEPT. AFTER ACKNOWLEDGING, WE RECEIVED A TA THAT TURNED TO AN RA AND 'MONITOR VERT SPD' WAS ANNOUNCED BY THE TCASII. THE TFC WAS DEPICTED CLBING FROM OUR L OFF OF VAN NUYS ARPT AND HEADED FOR US. I TURNED R WHICH WAS DECLARED CLR BY THE FO. THE FO, WHO WAS WORKING THE RADIO, WAS UNABLE TO GET A WORD IN UNTIL ATC ASKED WHERE ARE WE GOING? WE EXPLAINED, THEN HE SAID WE HAVE TFC OFF OUR R AND THAT'S WHO HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT. SUDDENLY THE ATC CTLR HAD ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO EXPLAIN. HE VECTORED US AROUND AND WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE HAD THE TFC OFF OUR R THE WHOLE TIME. OUR CONCERN WAS THE IMPENDING COLLISION OFF VAN NUYS. THE SOLUTION: IGNORANCE IS BLISS -- ELIMINATE TCASII OR CLOSE VAN NUYS.
