Narrative:

I was on final approach to runway 25L lgb. A light twin was in position, holding for takeoff clearance on runway 25L. At approximately 1 mi out, controller asked if I had the twin in sight and I replied affirmative. Controller then cleared the twin for takeoff. The twin was somewhat slow to start takeoff roll, and controller then told me to go around. I initiated a climb and controller directed me to climb to 1000 ft (pattern altitude) before turning crosswind. At this point I was concerned about the twin climbing beneath me. I considered requesting an offset to the right, but because of extremely busy radio traffic, I did not make the request. In the future, I will. I did, however, apparently move slightly to the right. About 20-30 seconds after starting the go around, I was able to see the twin. It was ahead and slightly to the left of my position and approximately 100 ft below, climbing at a higher rate than my aircraft. I offset further to the right as the twin climbed above me. I estimate the closest distance was 500 ft. Upon reaching 1000 ft and with the twin ahead and above me, I turned left crosswind and proceeded to fly a normal pattern and land on runway 25L. I believe the controller thought I would have the twin 'in sight' even after I started my go around and nose-up climb. He should have directed me to offset to the right and maintain visual contact.

Title: TWR TOLD RPTR TO GAR BUT DID NOT DELAY THE TKOF OF THE ACFT IN POS. HE FURTHER HAD THE RPTR CLB STRAIGHT AHEAD. THIS RESULTED IN THE TWIN CLBING TO CLOSE PROX OF RPTR.

Narrative: I WAS ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 25L LGB. A LIGHT TWIN WAS IN POS, HOLDING FOR TKOF CLRNC ON RWY 25L. AT APPROX 1 MI OUT, CTLR ASKED IF I HAD THE TWIN IN SIGHT AND I REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE. CTLR THEN CLRED THE TWIN FOR TKOF. THE TWIN WAS SOMEWHAT SLOW TO START TKOF ROLL, AND CTLR THEN TOLD ME TO GAR. I INITIATED A CLB AND CTLR DIRECTED ME TO CLB TO 1000 FT (PATTERN ALT) BEFORE TURNING XWIND. AT THIS POINT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE TWIN CLBING BENEATH ME. I CONSIDERED REQUESTING AN OFFSET TO THE R, BUT BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY BUSY RADIO TFC, I DID NOT MAKE THE REQUEST. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL. I DID, HOWEVER, APPARENTLY MOVE SLIGHTLY TO THE R. ABOUT 20-30 SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE GAR, I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE TWIN. IT WAS AHEAD AND SLIGHTLY TO THE L OF MY POS AND APPROX 100 FT BELOW, CLBING AT A HIGHER RATE THAN MY ACFT. I OFFSET FURTHER TO THE R AS THE TWIN CLBED ABOVE ME. I ESTIMATE THE CLOSEST DISTANCE WAS 500 FT. UPON REACHING 1000 FT AND WITH THE TWIN AHEAD AND ABOVE ME, I TURNED L XWIND AND PROCEEDED TO FLY A NORMAL PATTERN AND LAND ON RWY 25L. I BELIEVE THE CTLR THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE THE TWIN 'IN SIGHT' EVEN AFTER I STARTED MY GAR AND NOSE-UP CLB. HE SHOULD HAVE DIRECTED ME TO OFFSET TO THE R AND MAINTAIN VISUAL CONTACT.
