Narrative:
We departed for lga from mat in an light transport. Upon gear retraction a hydraulic warning was noted. The pressure and quantity went quickly to 0. We went through the checklists and pumped the gear down manually. On an mht 4 mi final the local controller asked if we could go back out for 5 mins or so to give crash fire rescue equipment more time to get ready. I did not feel it was prudent to extend the flight and declined. When I landed a fireman approached me quite angry that I would not extend my emergency flight. I felt 10 mins should have been adequate for a quick response emergency unit to deploy! Supplemental information from acn 234453: with the loss of the main system we had no nosewheel steering and only accumulator braking. As all of the checks were complete and declaring an emergency was only a precaution and the extent of hydraulic leak was not known, we felt it was safer to land as opposed to risking further loss of hydraulics.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 234453: WITH THE LOSS OF THE MAIN SYS WE HAD NO NOSEWHEEL STEERING AND ONLY ACCUMULATOR BRAKING. AS ALL OF THE CHKS WERE COMPLETE AND DECLARING AN EMER WAS ONLY A PRECAUTION AND THE EXTENT OF HYD LEAK WAS NOT KNOWN, WE FELT IT WAS SAFER TO LAND AS OPPOSED TO RISKING FURTHER LOSS OF HYDS.
