Narrative:
Was making localizer approach to runway 24R with a sidestep maneuver to land on runway 24L (due to snow plows on runway 24R). Upon reaching minimums, had visual on runway 24L. Confirmed visual with PNF. PNF then proceeded to scan instruments and call out required airspds and altitudes. I started sidestep maneuver, lined up with runway threshold between runway light stanchions, determined runway clear, and landed. After slowing airplane to taxi speed, I became aware that I was on taxiway instead of runway. Previous to this point in time the lens of the lights (both taxiway and runway) were covered in snow. The angle from which I was approaching obscured their color. Upon reflection, realized the taxiway was darker and easily visible whereas the runways, due to snow cover, were obscured. In the future I will be more aware that the visual references I am using could be deceiving.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR FLC LANDS ON TXWY DUE SNOW COVERED RWY. NOT INTENTIONAL.
Narrative: WAS MAKING LOC APCH TO RWY 24R WITH A SIDESTEP MANEUVER TO LAND ON RWY 24L (DUE TO SNOW PLOWS ON RWY 24R). UPON REACHING MINIMUMS, HAD VISUAL ON RWY 24L. CONFIRMED VISUAL WITH PNF. PNF THEN PROCEEDED TO SCAN INSTS AND CALL OUT REQUIRED AIRSPDS AND ALTS. I STARTED SIDESTEP MANEUVER, LINED UP WITH RWY THRESHOLD BTWN RWY LIGHT STANCHIONS, DETERMINED RWY CLR, AND LANDED. AFTER SLOWING AIRPLANE TO TAXI SPD, I BECAME AWARE THAT I WAS ON TXWY INSTEAD OF RWY. PREVIOUS TO THIS POINT IN TIME THE LENS OF THE LIGHTS (BOTH TXWY AND RWY) WERE COVERED IN SNOW. THE ANGLE FROM WHICH I WAS APCHING OBSCURED THEIR COLOR. UPON REFLECTION, REALIZED THE TXWY WAS DARKER AND EASILY VISIBLE WHEREAS THE RWYS, DUE TO SNOW COVER, WERE OBSCURED. IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE MORE AWARE THAT THE VISUAL REFS I AM USING COULD BE DECEIVING.
