Narrative:

We were at 8000 ft. Our flight was air carrier X (aby-atl). Another company flight Y was also on frequency (mcn approach 119.6) at 8000. Flight Y was given heading 270 degrees to join sinca 1 arrival. Our flight X was given heading 330 degrees to 'expect to join sinca 1 arrival.' controller called traffic for us '12 O'clock, 4 mi' and instructed company flight Y to climb immediately to 9000 ft. We saw the other aircraft at 12 O'clock climbing rapidly and our flight did not take evasive action. Both aircraft were at approximately 200 KIAS. Supplemental information from acn 237570: both aircraft were converging at cruise speed, so closure rates caused us to get pretty close before we passed. I picked up the other aircraft as we climbed, he saw us 'pop out of the haze' above him.
