Narrative:
After departing provo, could not find slc sectional. Started navigating from L-7,8 IFR chart. Used LORAN to navigation to V32 intxns. Called cedar city radio to determine if r- 6406A was active. He said he was not familiar...look on chart for times. Since IFR charts L-7,8 didn't give times for R-6406A, I tried center 128.55 but couldn't pick them up. I monitored center and tried to navigation around the edge using LORAN. What caused the problem was flying from boulder on VFR charts and when I switched to IFR I misjudged the scale difference and thought 12 NM southeast of bonneville would be ok. I called center and notified of position as soon as I knew I was off course in R-6406A. It would help if IFR charts had a list of areas like VFR charts. Also if the LORAN 'alerted' for restr like it does TCA it would be nice. Lastly, my reluctance to tell FSS I didn't have VFR chart in front of me, please look up times/boundaries for area would have been smart.
