Narrative:

During rollout on runway 4R at ewr, copilot engaged thrust reverser to second detent. As I called out 1.5 EPR, N2 went to red line around 94 percent for 1 second. We had flown same aircraft for 3 previous legs and reverse had worked normal. Maximum reverse is 93 percent N2. I believe that our new procedure of using maximum reverse (second detent) should be modified since this is the second time in 30 days I have seen first officer's overboost engines.
