Narrative:
Air carrier X on approach to den runway 26L we were vectored to 3 mi behind a widebody transport. The controller cleared us for a visual approach to runway 26L and instructed us to increase speed. This would have compromised the separation even more. I told the PF to slow to maintain wake turbulence separation. Runway 26L is staggered from runway 26R, with runway 26R being further downfield. Widebody transport's should not be given runway 26R unless 5 mi of separation exists since the runway 26L aircraft must fly well above the GS to stay out of the wake turbulence. This procedure of vectoring with less than required separation is common at den and sfo and should be discouraged. This is a clear violation of 7110.65 5-72(B).

Narrative: ACR X ON APCH TO DEN RWY 26L WE WERE VECTORED TO 3 MI BEHIND A WDB. THE CTLR CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 26L AND INSTRUCTED US TO INCREASE SPD. THIS WOULD HAVE COMPROMISED THE SEPARATION EVEN MORE. I TOLD THE PF TO SLOW TO MAINTAIN WAKE TURB SEPARATION. RWY 26L IS STAGGERED FROM RWY 26R, WITH RWY 26R BEING FURTHER DOWNFIELD. WDB'S SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN RWY 26R UNLESS 5 MI OF SEPARATION EXISTS SINCE THE RWY 26L ACFT MUST FLY WELL ABOVE THE GS TO STAY OUT OF THE WAKE TURB.
