Narrative:

While cruising at 6000 ft assigned and approximately 20 mins from destination, the right engine surged and then RPM dropped 300 RPM. I checked all engine instruments and fuel tanks and the only wrong indication was a 300 RPM loss of propeller RPM. I retrimmed the aircraft for the power loss and put it back on automatic pilot. I tried to determine the cause of the problem and a possible correction. I apparently failed to set the altitude hold on the autoplt and was called by ZKC to check my altitude. I had deviated from the assigned altitude and then I explained to center my problem. They wanted to know if I would like a block altitude and I replied this altitude would be okay. I had determined that I could not find the cause and told ZKC that I would proceed to my destination. A landing was made without any difficulty. I had maintenance personnel check the engine.

Title: SMT PLT DISTR BY ENG PROB, EXPERIENCES AN ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION.

Narrative: WHILE CRUISING AT 6000 FT ASSIGNED AND APPROX 20 MINS FROM DEST, THE R ENG SURGED AND THEN RPM DROPPED 300 RPM. I CHKED ALL ENG INSTS AND FUEL TANKS AND THE ONLY WRONG INDICATION WAS A 300 RPM LOSS OF PROP RPM. I RETRIMMED THE ACFT FOR THE PWR LOSS AND PUT IT BACK ON AUTO PLT. I TRIED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROB AND A POSSIBLE CORRECTION. I APPARENTLY FAILED TO SET THE ALT HOLD ON THE AUTOPLT AND WAS CALLED BY ZKC TO CHK MY ALT. I HAD DEVIATED FROM THE ASSIGNED ALT AND THEN I EXPLAINED TO CTR MY PROB. THEY WANTED TO KNOW IF I WOULD LIKE A BLOCK ALT AND I REPLIED THIS ALT WOULD BE OKAY. I HAD DETERMINED THAT I COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE AND TOLD ZKC THAT I WOULD PROCEED TO MY DEST. A LNDG WAS MADE WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTY. I HAD MAINT PERSONNEL CHK THE ENG.
