Narrative:
SID departure from wsss called for a turn at 2000 ft and another at 3000 ft. We had it programmed in the FMS. After takeoff we were given several altitude restrictions because of traffic above us. I completely forgot about making the turns as radar kept us busy with the restrictions. Shortly thereafter, radar gave us a turn and climb saying we were then clear of traffic. I remembered the SID as we were making the assigned heading change. We were 2.3 mi south of course. I did have a new copilot and the altitude changes were very distracting along with cleaning up and doing after takeoff checks. It might help if radar would mention to climb, etc, with SID restrictions. I think I slipped into thinking we were on vectors partly because of the several restrictions, and the constant patter by radar.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A WDB ACR ACFT FAILED TO FOLLOW SID TURNS DURING CLBOUT DUE TO DISTRS FROM ATC FOR ALT RESTRICTION CHANGES.
Narrative: SID DEP FROM WSSS CALLED FOR A TURN AT 2000 FT AND ANOTHER AT 3000 FT. WE HAD IT PROGRAMMED IN THE FMS. AFTER TKOF WE WERE GIVEN SEVERAL ALT RESTRICTIONS BECAUSE OF TFC ABOVE US. I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT MAKING THE TURNS AS RADAR KEPT US BUSY WITH THE RESTRICTIONS. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, RADAR GAVE US A TURN AND CLB SAYING WE WERE THEN CLR OF TFC. I REMEMBERED THE SID AS WE WERE MAKING THE ASSIGNED HDG CHANGE. WE WERE 2.3 MI S OF COURSE. I DID HAVE A NEW COPLT AND THE ALT CHANGES WERE VERY DISTRACTING ALONG WITH CLEANING UP AND DOING AFTER TKOF CHKS. IT MIGHT HELP IF RADAR WOULD MENTION TO CLB, ETC, WITH SID RESTRICTIONS. I THINK I SLIPPED INTO THINKING WE WERE ON VECTORS PARTLY BECAUSE OF THE SEVERAL RESTRICTIONS, AND THE CONSTANT PATTER BY RADAR.
