Narrative:
#2 engine failed on takeoff during IFR departure from kapalua, west maui. After securing the engine using the appropriate checklists, ATC was advised and we proceeded to hnl airport for landing. The decision to proceed to hnl instead of kahului or molokai airports was based on prevailing mixed VFR/IMC WX existing at the time, and it was felt it would be safer to proceed to hnl with its longer runways and excellent crash rescue equipment.
