Narrative:
On aug/xx/93 I was a deadheading crew member for a total of 7 hours, and 2 stops. Because our reserve crew was scrambled, no catering was available. When our meals arrived we were also given a flight plan and told to depart as soon as possible due to another problem in the system. After an hour preparing our aircraft for departure our crew was airborne, on our way and able to begin dinner. When we arrived at our destination another flight plan awaited, an as soon as possible departure, and 2 mechanical write-ups from the flight. It took another hour to clear the mechanical's and we were ready to depart. Let's review the duty time of our crew 10 plus 30 hours. Flight time 1 plus 30. The 16 hour rule and 8 hour flight time is unsafe. Our crew could still be on duty for 5 plus 30 hours. I felt unsafe on this date. It was all legal, and goes on in many cockpits on a daily basis.
