Narrative:

When cleared to taxi to runway 22, I inadvertently crossed runway 22 because I did not realize the location of the runway. I had asked the ground controller for directions to taxi. He instructed me to use taxiway north. I did, but did not hold before the runway. There was no runway 22 sign. There is a lot of construction at caldwell. I suggest the txwys be marked appropriately. There was no other traffic at the airport at the time. While I'm at it, I'd like to report a situation which is dangerous. The parking ramp behind the old hangar has yellow taxiway marking which if followed, will cause a collision. This is because additional parking spots were allowed without changing the taxi markings. The 'new' aircraft parking spots are located in the taxi path of the yellow taxi line. This situation has existed for at least 2 yrs, possibly more. Every time I taxi there at night I am reminded of the hazard. The hangar at which this situation exists will be torn down very soon, so the situation will be corrected at that time. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that hangar will be torn down within the month, so that will no longer be a problem. Reporter complains that taxiway markings generally are terrible. Lots of renovating going on at airport and will probably be fine eventually. But in the meantime, airport needs to keep signage current. It is different every time he goes in there. Also states beacon is extremely dim and airport hard to locate.

Title: RWY TRANSGRESSION DUE TO POOR SIGNAGE.

Narrative: WHEN CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 22, I INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 22 BECAUSE I DID NOT REALIZE THE LOCATION OF THE RWY. I HAD ASKED THE GND CTLR FOR DIRECTIONS TO TAXI. HE INSTRUCTED ME TO USE TXWY N. I DID, BUT DID NOT HOLD BEFORE THE RWY. THERE WAS NO RWY 22 SIGN. THERE IS A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION AT CALDWELL. I SUGGEST THE TXWYS BE MARKED APPROPRIATELY. THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC AT THE ARPT AT THE TIME. WHILE I'M AT IT, I'D LIKE TO RPT A SIT WHICH IS DANGEROUS. THE PARKING RAMP BEHIND THE OLD HANGAR HAS YELLOW TXWY MARKING WHICH IF FOLLOWED, WILL CAUSE A COLLISION. THIS IS BECAUSE ADDITIONAL PARKING SPOTS WERE ALLOWED WITHOUT CHANGING THE TAXI MARKINGS. THE 'NEW' ACFT PARKING SPOTS ARE LOCATED IN THE TAXI PATH OF THE YELLOW TAXI LINE. THIS SIT HAS EXISTED FOR AT LEAST 2 YRS, POSSIBLY MORE. EVERY TIME I TAXI THERE AT NIGHT I AM REMINDED OF THE HAZARD. THE HANGAR AT WHICH THIS SIT EXISTS WILL BE TORN DOWN VERY SOON, SO THE SIT WILL BE CORRECTED AT THAT TIME. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT HANGAR WILL BE TORN DOWN WITHIN THE MONTH, SO THAT WILL NO LONGER BE A PROB. RPTR COMPLAINS THAT TXWY MARKINGS GENERALLY ARE TERRIBLE. LOTS OF RENOVATING GOING ON AT ARPT AND WILL PROBABLY BE FINE EVENTUALLY. BUT IN THE MEANTIME, ARPT NEEDS TO KEEP SIGNAGE CURRENT. IT IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME HE GOES IN THERE. ALSO STATES BEACON IS EXTREMELY DIM AND ARPT HARD TO LOCATE.
