Narrative:
Taxiing for takeoff. Monitoring both tower and ground control. Copilot was communicating. Performed takeoff from taxiway after mistaking ground clearance to position for tower clearance to depart. No tower clearance had been given. Flight was clear of all active runways and no conflicts occurred. After discussion with tower continued westerly departure with normal traffic control. I believe incident occurred due to 2 mistakes on my part: 1) attempting to monitor 2 frequencys at once. 2) abrupt change of plans with regard to desired departure point. Nonstandard xmissions on the part of all parties may have contributed. To correct: 1) monitor only 1 frequency at a time. 2) improve cockpit coordination. 3) reevaluate total situation whenever changes occur. 4) don't hurry.

Narrative: TAXIING FOR TKOF. MONITORING BOTH TWR AND GND CTL. COPLT WAS COMMUNICATING. PERFORMED TKOF FROM TXWY AFTER MISTAKING GND CLRNC TO POS FOR TWR CLRNC TO DEPART. NO TWR CLRNC HAD BEEN GIVEN. FLT WAS CLR OF ALL ACTIVE RWYS AND NO CONFLICTS OCCURRED. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH TWR CONTINUED WESTERLY DEP WITH NORMAL TFC CTL.
