Narrative:

I was approaching hky from the south, about 5 mi south of the airport. I saw a heavy rainshower approaching the airport on the north end. I checked the map and called hky on 120.0 2 times, no reply. As the heavy rainshower was now on the north end of the airport, I made a short approach to runway 24 and landed. The visibility at that time was about 2 mi with 1000 ft ceiling off the end of 24. Hky FSS had issued an earlier report of 4000 ft ceilings. I learned later an small aircraft single engine land was on the approach to 24. What I should have done was call hky on 121.5 for a special, but I did not think of that, as this was not a pre-planned landing.
