Narrative:
On sep/sun/93 crew departed main ramp area at brl. We taxied to and departed from runway 18, which was a closed runway at the time. On takeoff, the only thing observed on the runway was a small, yellow circular area approximately 2000-3000 ft from the end of the displaced threshold of runway 18 (crew departed from the displaced threshold). No further incident occurred. Contributing factors: failure of crew to thoroughly review the local NOTAMS for the airport. Inadequate markings for a closed runway, should be 'no doubt' that runway is closed.

Title: ACR MDT FLC PERFORMS TKOF ON CLOSED RWY AT NON TWR ARPT UNICOM.
Narrative: ON SEP/SUN/93 CREW DEPARTED MAIN RAMP AREA AT BRL. WE TAXIED TO AND DEPARTED FROM RWY 18, WHICH WAS A CLOSED RWY AT THE TIME. ON TKOF, THE ONLY THING OBSERVED ON THE RWY WAS A SMALL, YELLOW CIRCULAR AREA APPROX 2000-3000 FT FROM THE END OF THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD OF RWY 18 (CREW DEPARTED FROM THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD). NO FURTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: FAILURE OF CREW TO THOROUGHLY REVIEW THE LCL NOTAMS FOR THE ARPT. INADEQUATE MARKINGS FOR A CLOSED RWY, SHOULD BE 'NO DOUBT' THAT RWY IS CLOSED.
