Narrative:
Departed alb on runway 19 full power takeoff. At 1200 ft AGL, in right turn, left engine gave several compressor stalls (165 KIAS) followed by a small power loss. I immediately suggested to the captain that we return to the field for landing. He did not agree, and wanted to continue to the destination against my will. The left egt failed. Again, I expressed my desire to return to land, but he would not. At FL180 the power loss was 1.5 EPR at matched throttle position. He now agreed to divert for a precautionary landing. He (the captain) assumed control (PF) and diverted to syr. Left engine gave more compressor stalls during descent. Uneventful landing accomplished by captain in syr.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN MLG ACR ACFT DIVERTED TO AN ALTERNATE ARPT AFTER EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF PWR AND 'ENG STALLS' SHORTLY AFTER TKOF AND CLBING TO ALT ON 1 ENG.
Narrative: DEPARTED ALB ON RWY 19 FULL PWR TKOF. AT 1200 FT AGL, IN R TURN, L ENG GAVE SEVERAL COMPRESSOR STALLS (165 KIAS) FOLLOWED BY A SMALL PWR LOSS. I IMMEDIATELY SUGGESTED TO THE CAPT THAT WE RETURN TO THE FIELD FOR LNDG. HE DID NOT AGREE, AND WANTED TO CONTINUE TO THE DEST AGAINST MY WILL. THE L EGT FAILED. AGAIN, I EXPRESSED MY DESIRE TO RETURN TO LAND, BUT HE WOULD NOT. AT FL180 THE PWR LOSS WAS 1.5 EPR AT MATCHED THROTTLE POS. HE NOW AGREED TO DIVERT FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG. HE (THE CAPT) ASSUMED CTL (PF) AND DIVERTED TO SYR. L ENG GAVE MORE COMPRESSOR STALLS DURING DSCNT. UNEVENTFUL LNDG ACCOMPLISHED BY CAPT IN SYR.
