Narrative:
We asked for and were cleared for the visual approach to tpa runway 18L from about 7 mi out. That's the last transmission I recall hearing. I also don't remember him telling us to contact the tower. After being cleared, I concentrated on the before landing checklist with a new copilot, who had experience as a captain in the military, but was getting used to our procedures. We joined the ILS and were going through callouts and procedures during an ILS. Before I knew it, we were on the ground and I noticed we were still on approach frequency. We called ground and he cleared us to taxi to the FBO. Ground didn't say anything about not contacting tower before landing. At night in tampa the approach and tower are manned by the same person and that may be why it didn't occur to me during the approach to contact tower. I don't know what time they change over to 1 person doing both. He may have cleared us for the visual and to land at the same time. I just can't recall. If approach did ask us to go to tower, we never answered and he should have called us again.
