Narrative:
On 1 mares SID for runway 09 at maiquetia venezuela, 4000 ft is level off altitude until issued climb. FL280 was clearance cruise altitude. 280 was set in the altitude box instead of 4000 ft in preparation for additional climb instruction. Late handoff to departure resulted in climb through 4000 ft and level off at 6000 ft before climb to 280 was received.

Narrative: ON 1 MARES SID FOR RWY 09 AT MAIQUETIA VENEZUELA, 4000 FT IS LEVEL OFF ALT UNTIL ISSUED CLB. FL280 WAS CLRNC CRUISE ALT. 280 WAS SET IN THE ALT BOX INSTEAD OF 4000 FT IN PREPARATION FOR ADDITIONAL CLB INSTRUCTION.
