Narrative:

We were doing timed turns north/south and south/north. Rolling out of one of the turns to the north, I saw the high wing small aircraft at 12 O'clock about 500 ft away. The small aircraft turned right and we descended. TRACON was being monitored and the small aircraft pilot informed TRACON of the event. Neither stockton nor sacramento tracons pointed us out to the small aircraft. The stockton controller said he saw no other aircraft in the vicinity of the small aircraft. We had left holding at orang intersection and terminated contact with stockton approximately 10 mins previously. This is the same location of a midair about a yr ago. The small aircraft pilot said on the phone that he had another near midair collision at wager intersection later in the day that we had the near midair collision. Maybe there is a problem with radar coverage in that area, as it is on the dividing line between sac/sck tracons.

Title: NMAC IN VFR CONDITIONS. NO RADAR ADVISORY.

Narrative: WE WERE DOING TIMED TURNS N/S AND S/N. ROLLING OUT OF ONE OF THE TURNS TO THE N, I SAW THE HIGH WING SMA AT 12 O'CLOCK ABOUT 500 FT AWAY. THE SMA TURNED R AND WE DSNDED. TRACON WAS BEING MONITORED AND THE SMA PLT INFORMED TRACON OF THE EVENT. NEITHER STOCKTON NOR SACRAMENTO TRACONS POINTED US OUT TO THE SMA. THE STOCKTON CTLR SAID HE SAW NO OTHER ACFT IN THE VICINITY OF THE SMA. WE HAD LEFT HOLDING AT ORANG INTXN AND TERMINATED CONTACT WITH STOCKTON APPROX 10 MINS PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS THE SAME LOCATION OF A MIDAIR ABOUT A YR AGO. THE SMA PLT SAID ON THE PHONE THAT HE HAD ANOTHER NMAC AT WAGER INTXN LATER IN THE DAY THAT WE HAD THE NMAC. MAYBE THERE IS A PROB WITH RADAR COVERAGE IN THAT AREA, AS IT IS ON THE DIVIDING LINE BTWN SAC/SCK TRACONS.
