Narrative:
During the takeoff roll in the BE95 travelair the door opened. I elected to continue the takeoff not knowing how loud it would become in the cockpit. Because of the noise I was unable to communication with isp tower nor with ny departure. I flew the plane to hwv where we were able to close the door and then we returned to isp. The chain of events went: 1) we did not insure that the door was closed properly even though I pushed heavily on it. 2) I continued the takeoff even though we could have easily aborted. (I thought we would be able to close the door in the air. 3) I did not stay in the pattern and land because we could not communication with anyone. What I learned: 1) on a low wing plane it is very difficult (impossible) to shut the door in flight. 2) abort takeoffs if anything untoward happens. 3) memorize light signals and broadcast in the blind even if I can't hear.

Title: THE DOOR OPENED ON TKOF.
Narrative: DURING THE TKOF ROLL IN THE BE95 TRAVELAIR THE DOOR OPENED. I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE TKOF NOT KNOWING HOW LOUD IT WOULD BECOME IN THE COCKPIT. BECAUSE OF THE NOISE I WAS UNABLE TO COM WITH ISP TWR NOR WITH NY DEP. 2) I CONTINUED THE TKOF EVEN THOUGH WE COULD HAVE EASILY ABORTED. (I THOUGHT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR IN THE AIR. 3) I DID NOT STAY IN THE PATTERN AND LAND BECAUSE WE COULD NOT COM WITH ANYONE. WHAT I LEARNED: 1) ON A LOW WING PLANE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT (IMPOSSIBLE) TO SHUT THE DOOR IN FLT. 2) ABORT TKOFS IF ANYTHING UNTOWARD HAPPENS. 3) MEMORIZE LIGHT SIGNALS AND BROADCAST IN THE BLIND EVEN IF I CAN'T HEAR.
