Narrative:
Monitored ATIS, departures on runway 17L at pie. Ground control cleared me to taxi to runway 17L. Proceeded to runway 17L and completed pre takeoff checklist. Contacted tower and was cleared to takeoff runway 17L, turn right after departure to 270 degrees. Was departing to tlh. Taxied onto runway and turned north, taking off on runway 35R. Realized during climb out I had departed in wrong direction. Tower also noted I had departed on runway 35R but said 'no problem, turn left to 270 degrees.' believe I had a mind set that tlh was north and though I heard and acknowledged the clearance to depart runway 17L still turned toward my destination and departed. No conflict with other traffic was observed nor reported to me by tower. Lesson learned: always check compass heading against runway assignment when lined up.

NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC WAS OBSERVED NOR RPTED TO ME BY TWR. LESSON LEARNED: ALWAYS CHK COMPASS HDG AGAINST RWY ASSIGNMENT WHEN LINED UP.
