Narrative:
We pushed off of gate, called for taxi clearance a few mins later. Ground control cleared us to 'taxi to 12R via the inner ramp.' as we passed the terminal we stayed on the ramp area until it became taxiway H. The captain remarked he had never been this way before. Noting on the taxi chart that there were several connections to get us to 12R, it appeared we were going the correct way. As we passed the threshold to 12R it became obvious we could not get to the runway. We turned the corner at the end of 'H' hoping to turn around. We called ground control and asked if there was room. Ground said he didn't know but they taxied ltts in that area. We decided to shut down and told ground we would require a tug to push us back to taxiway G. We were pushed back to taxiway G at 12R threshold and restarted engines. We proceeded to slc. The captain spoke with flight control upon arrival. Recommendations include: 1) ground control clearance more specific, i.e., taxi to 12R, via the inner ramp, taxiway G. 2) signage to indicate air carrier direction.

Title: MLG BLUNDERS ONTO A WT RESTR TXWY AND BECOMES STRANDED, UNABLE TO PROCEED TO THE ASSIGNED RWY.
Narrative: WE PUSHED OFF OF GATE, CALLED FOR TAXI CLRNC A FEW MINS LATER. GND CTL CLRED US TO 'TAXI TO 12R VIA THE INNER RAMP.' AS WE PASSED THE TERMINAL WE STAYED ON THE RAMP AREA UNTIL IT BECAME TXWY H. THE CAPT REMARKED HE HAD NEVER BEEN THIS WAY BEFORE. NOTING ON THE TAXI CHART THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL CONNECTIONS TO GET US TO 12R, IT APPEARED WE WERE GOING THE CORRECT WAY. AS WE PASSED THE THRESHOLD TO 12R IT BECAME OBVIOUS WE COULD NOT GET TO THE RWY. WE TURNED THE CORNER AT THE END OF 'H' HOPING TO TURN AROUND. WE CALLED GND CTL AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ROOM. GND SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW BUT THEY TAXIED LTTS IN THAT AREA. WE DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN AND TOLD GND WE WOULD REQUIRE A TUG TO PUSH US BACK TO TXWY G. WE WERE PUSHED BACK TO TXWY G AT 12R THRESHOLD AND RESTARTED ENGS. WE PROCEEDED TO SLC. THE CAPT SPOKE WITH FLT CTL UPON ARR. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE: 1) GND CTL CLRNC MORE SPECIFIC, I.E., TAXI TO 12R, VIA THE INNER RAMP, TXWY G. 2) SIGNAGE TO INDICATE ACR DIRECTION.
