Narrative:
While climbing through FL365 to FL370, the outer pane of the left side windshield cracked into a spider web shape. ATC was notified, they could not give us an altitude below FL340, so we declared an emergency. The aircraft maintained pressurization, but we were not sure of the windshield integrity so the rapid decompression checklist was completed followed by the emergency descent checklist. We executed an emergency descent down to 10000 ft MSL. We were then vectored to the ILS 19 approach course where we broke out of IMC 300 ft AGL. The flight terminated in a safe landing. Supplemental information from acn 261951: even though the aircraft did not depressurize, I ran the emergency descent checklist, informing the passenger and discussing contingencies with my so. Since a return to land at sdf was requested after declaring the emergency, we briefed the approach and discussed the possibility of the copilot landing the aircraft if my vision was obscured. The approach and landing were normal. Having the ability to interact as a crew was a strong factor in the success of this flight.

Title: EMER DECLARED FOR EMER DSCNT AFTER CPR JET SUFFERS A FRONT L CRACKED WINDSHIELD.
Narrative: WHILE CLBING THROUGH FL365 TO FL370, THE OUTER PANE OF THE L SIDE WINDSHIELD CRACKED INTO A SPIDER WEB SHAPE. ATC WAS NOTIFIED, THEY COULD NOT GIVE US AN ALT BELOW FL340, SO WE DECLARED AN EMER. THE ACFT MAINTAINED PRESSURIZATION, BUT WE WERE NOT SURE OF THE WINDSHIELD INTEGRITY SO THE RAPID DECOMPRESSION CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED FOLLOWED BY THE EMER DSCNT CHKLIST. WE EXECUTED AN EMER DSCNT DOWN TO 10000 FT MSL. WE WERE THEN VECTORED TO THE ILS 19 APCH COURSE WHERE WE BROKE OUT OF IMC 300 FT AGL. THE FLT TERMINATED IN A SAFE LNDG. THE APCH AND LNDG WERE NORMAL. HAVING THE ABILITY TO INTERACT AS A CREW WAS A STRONG FACTOR IN THE SUCCESS OF THIS FLT.
