Narrative:

Routing: shannon to miami. While flying assigned routing (NA4) and altitude (FL290) between position deado and lears. Approximately 300 NM southwest of bermuda, observed approaching traffic on TCASII 800 ft below us. As traffic approached 5 mi, it started to climb up into us. We received a TA followed by an RA command 'climb, climb, climb,' which we responded to. Broadcast on 121.5, aircraft climbing to FL290, stop climb. I had visual sighting on his lights and he appeared to turn hard left and descend, approximately 500 ft below and to our right. TCASII advised clear of traffic at 500 ft in our climb. We returned to our previous altitude and advised new york arinc on high frequency 8846. Without the TCASII warning we would not have had enough visual to avoid traffic!
