Narrative:

Alternator went out approximately 25 mi northeast of airport mci, nearest airport known to me, and tried to contact approach control so could land to fix the problem. Flew at 6500 ft in pattern at airport, still no contact with approach control that I could understand as radio was garbled. Shut off all equipment except 1 radio and transponder to conserve battery. Started second time around in pattern and above all traffic. Saw a 727 jet on final to land then noticed it raise its nose and abort the landing. I turned toward the runway. Seeing no one else on final to land, I landed as fast and short as possible to clear the runway. Stayed between both runways trying to contact ground control, to no avail. Security van came, motioned me across the runway to ramp. If tower was using light signals, I never saw any.

Narrative: ALTERNATOR WENT OUT APPROX 25 MI NE OF ARPT MCI, NEAREST ARPT KNOWN TO ME, AND TRIED TO CONTACT APCH CTL SO COULD LAND TO FIX THE PROB. FLEW AT 6500 FT IN PATTERN AT ARPT, STILL NO CONTACT WITH APCH CTL THAT I COULD UNDERSTAND AS RADIO WAS GARBLED. SHUT OFF ALL EQUIP EXCEPT 1 RADIO AND XPONDER TO CONSERVE BATTERY. STARTED SECOND TIME AROUND IN PATTERN AND ABOVE ALL TFC. SAW A 727 JET ON FINAL TO LAND THEN NOTICED IT RAISE ITS NOSE AND ABORT THE LNDG. I TURNED TOWARD THE RWY. SEEING NO ONE ELSE ON FINAL TO LAND, I LANDED AS FAST AND SHORT AS POSSIBLE TO CLR THE RWY. STAYED BTWN BOTH RWYS TRYING TO CONTACT GND CTL, TO NO AVAIL. SECURITY VAN CAME, MOTIONED ME ACROSS THE RWY TO RAMP. IF TWR WAS USING LIGHT SIGNALS, I NEVER SAW ANY.
