Narrative:

To the best of my recollection these are the facts surrounding the above mentioned flight. The first officer and I arrived on the aircraft. The first officer proceeded outside to do the walkaround. After checking the logbook I noticed that the gear handle was in the 'off' position and both red and green lights were illuminated. At this time the first officer returned to the cockpit and I pointed out the abnormal position of the gear handle and that we would call maintenance and let them ascertain why we had been presented an aircraft in this confign. I called company on 130.10 and requested maintenance. I told the first officer to have maintenance look at abnormal gear handle and resolve as I would be leaving to sign the flight release. When I returned to the aircraft there were 2 mechanics in the cockpit. The mechanic who had been in captain seat was crouching over the pedestal and with left hand on glare shield attempted to move gear handle with right hand. The handle would not move. To my amazement he then pulled the override switch and raised the gear handle. I stated 'what are you doing?' the mechanic then reached overhead and turned on a hydraulic pump and immediately the nose gear began to retract into nose well and the aircraft settled. The 2 mechanics left the cockpit and exited via the broken jetway since the cabin door was just about torn off when it settled on the jetway. After checking to see if there were any injuries which there were none, I turned aircraft over to another mechanic.

Title: MECH RETRACTS GEAR ON PARKED ACFT.

Narrative: TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION THESE ARE THE FACTS SURROUNDING THE ABOVE MENTIONED FLT. THE FO AND I ARRIVED ON THE ACFT. THE FO PROCEEDED OUTSIDE TO DO THE WALKAROUND. AFTER CHKING THE LOGBOOK I NOTICED THAT THE GEAR HANDLE WAS IN THE 'OFF' POS AND BOTH RED AND GREEN LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. AT THIS TIME THE FO RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT AND I POINTED OUT THE ABNORMAL POS OF THE GEAR HANDLE AND THAT WE WOULD CALL MAINT AND LET THEM ASCERTAIN WHY WE HAD BEEN PRESENTED AN ACFT IN THIS CONFIGN. I CALLED COMPANY ON 130.10 AND REQUESTED MAINT. I TOLD THE FO TO HAVE MAINT LOOK AT ABNORMAL GEAR HANDLE AND RESOLVE AS I WOULD BE LEAVING TO SIGN THE FLT RELEASE. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE ACFT THERE WERE 2 MECHS IN THE COCKPIT. THE MECH WHO HAD BEEN IN CAPT SEAT WAS CROUCHING OVER THE PEDESTAL AND WITH L HAND ON GLARE SHIELD ATTEMPTED TO MOVE GEAR HANDLE WITH R HAND. THE HANDLE WOULD NOT MOVE. TO MY AMAZEMENT HE THEN PULLED THE OVERRIDE SWITCH AND RAISED THE GEAR HANDLE. I STATED 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?' THE MECH THEN REACHED OVERHEAD AND TURNED ON A HYD PUMP AND IMMEDIATELY THE NOSE GEAR BEGAN TO RETRACT INTO NOSE WELL AND THE ACFT SETTLED. THE 2 MECHS LEFT THE COCKPIT AND EXITED VIA THE BROKEN JETWAY SINCE THE CABIN DOOR WAS JUST ABOUT TORN OFF WHEN IT SETTLED ON THE JETWAY. AFTER CHKING TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES WHICH THERE WERE NONE, I TURNED ACFT OVER TO ANOTHER MECH.
