Narrative:
F18 not reported by center as traffic until after occurrence and after we quizzed center if they had seen the on coming traffic. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the aircraft was climbing and TCASII idented the traffic. The climb took the flight thorough the F18 altitude. Captain called center and controller claimed they did not have the traffic until after captain idented it. Seems strange to reporter that, since they were at FL180, that ATC did not know about the fgt. No further follow up.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT IS CLBED THROUGH ALT OF F18. TCASII IDENTED TFC.
Narrative: F18 NOT RPTED BY CTR AS TFC UNTIL AFTER OCCURRENCE AND AFTER WE QUIZZED CTR IF THEY HAD SEEN THE ON COMING TFC. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THE ACFT WAS CLBING AND TCASII IDENTED THE TFC. THE CLB TOOK THE FLT THOROUGH THE F18 ALT. CAPT CALLED CTR AND CTLR CLAIMED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE TFC UNTIL AFTER CAPT IDENTED IT. SEEMS STRANGE TO RPTR THAT, SINCE THEY WERE AT FL180, THAT ATC DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE FGT. NO FURTHER FOLLOW UP.
