Narrative:
While approaching to land at somerset, ky, I was high and fast. Rather than going around, I elected to land. I touched down 30 KTS too fast and had difficulty stopping the plane. Although there was adequate runway, at the time, due to a slight slope in the runway and the sun, reflecting off the runway, I thought I was closer to the end that I actually was. I applied hard brakes and blew out both main tires, requiring the plane to be towed off the runway and needing new tires, obviously, I should have done a go around. A good landing requires a good approach. A simple line painted across runways at 1000 ft from the end can also help prevent such mishaps and help pilots judge remaining runway both on landing and takeoff. Also, pilots are often reluctant to do a missed approach or go around when after the event, it is clear that it would have been the best action.

Title: SMT PLT BRAKES HARD ON LNDG ROLL OUT AND BLOWS BOTH MAIN GEAR TIRES.
Narrative: WHILE APCHING TO LAND AT SOMERSET, KY, I WAS HIGH AND FAST. RATHER THAN GOING AROUND, I ELECTED TO LAND. I TOUCHED DOWN 30 KTS TOO FAST AND HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING THE PLANE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS ADEQUATE RWY, AT THE TIME, DUE TO A SLIGHT SLOPE IN THE RWY AND THE SUN, REFLECTING OFF THE RWY, I THOUGHT I WAS CLOSER TO THE END THAT I ACTUALLY WAS. I APPLIED HARD BRAKES AND BLEW OUT BOTH MAIN TIRES, REQUIRING THE PLANE TO BE TOWED OFF THE RWY AND NEEDING NEW TIRES, OBVIOUSLY, I SHOULD HAVE DONE A GAR. A GOOD LNDG REQUIRES A GOOD APCH. A SIMPLE LINE PAINTED ACROSS RWYS AT 1000 FT FROM THE END CAN ALSO HELP PREVENT SUCH MISHAPS AND HELP PLTS JUDGE REMAINING RWY BOTH ON LNDG AND TKOF. ALSO, PLTS ARE OFTEN RELUCTANT TO DO A MISSED APCH OR GAR WHEN AFTER THE EVENT, IT IS CLR THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST ACTION.
