Narrative:
Upon approach to quonset point, I had no landing gear extension light. After following emergency procedures, I contacted pvd approach to state my problems. I was advised to do fly-by, which only concluded that I had 3 wheels down. I still had no light. When asked my intentions I stated I wanted to land at pvd. Tower scrambled emergency equipment due to questionable gear. Landing gear did engage with in 25 ft of ground by divine intervention (I heard gear drop into place just before touchdown - during flare. Upon close observation, I determined that gear was prohibited from extension by gear door which was not secured by connection rod to nose gear. Upon extension demand the 'free' door was jammed into front of nose stantion. To prevent recurrence I may change aircraft mechanics.
