Narrative:

How problem arose: glider passed below and to the left of airplane just after leaving the pattern. How discovered: visual on glider as it passed on left. Contributing factors: setting plane up for climb to cruise altitude. Light haze, all white glider. Activating flight plan FSS, contacting nashville approach (radio operations). Corrective actions: improve allocation of time between cockpit duties and visual scans for traffic. Pilot was following voluntary program of 'lights on' including beacon light, anticollision lights, and landing lights during takeoff and within 10 mi of airport.
