Narrative:
Arriving inbound to oakland at 6000 ft, ATC pointed out traffic, not in contact with ATC, level at 5000 ft unconfirmed. They then cleared us to maintain 5000 ft. We started our descent and advised ATC that we would level off momentarily at 5500 ft with visual contact of our traffic to avoid any possible collision. Our TCASII positively idented the bonanza, and instructed a climb as we leveled at 5500 ft. We communicated effectively with ATC and descended to 5000 ft. After we were clear of the conflict. ATC approved our momentary leveloff.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG LEVELED OFF IN DSCNT IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA. NMAC.
Narrative: ARRIVING INBOUND TO OAKLAND AT 6000 FT, ATC POINTED OUT TFC, NOT IN CONTACT WITH ATC, LEVEL AT 5000 FT UNCONFIRMED. THEY THEN CLRED US TO MAINTAIN 5000 FT. WE STARTED OUR DSCNT AND ADVISED ATC THAT WE WOULD LEVEL OFF MOMENTARILY AT 5500 FT WITH VISUAL CONTACT OF OUR TFC TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE COLLISION. OUR TCASII POSITIVELY IDENTED THE BONANZA, AND INSTRUCTED A CLB AS WE LEVELED AT 5500 FT. WE COMMUNICATED EFFECTIVELY WITH ATC AND DSNDED TO 5000 FT. AFTER WE WERE CLR OF THE CONFLICT. ATC APPROVED OUR MOMENTARY LEVELOFF.
