Narrative:

While taxiing from the gate to runway 06 at roanoke for departure, ground control issued a clearance to hold short of runway 06. The captain taxied the aircraft and held short. Ground control notified us that we had passed the hold short line by 400 ft. Ground said it was no problem and we then departed the airport. The hold short line at roanoke for runway 06 on taxiway 'east' is very confusing. It is located well before the normal hold short line location and caused the confusion. Additionally, we noticed another air carrier later that same day make the same mistake. Additionally, both myself and the captain were unfamiliar with the airport.

Title: AN ACR LIT CROSSED THE TAXI HOLD LINE AT ROA.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING FROM THE GATE TO RWY 06 AT ROANOKE FOR DEP, GND CTL ISSUED A CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 06. THE CAPT TAXIED THE ACFT AND HELD SHORT. GND CTL NOTIFIED US THAT WE HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE BY 400 FT. GND SAID IT WAS NO PROB AND WE THEN DEPARTED THE ARPT. THE HOLD SHORT LINE AT ROANOKE FOR RWY 06 ON TXWY 'E' IS VERY CONFUSING. IT IS LOCATED WELL BEFORE THE NORMAL HOLD SHORT LINE LOCATION AND CAUSED THE CONFUSION. ADDITIONALLY, WE NOTICED ANOTHER AIR CARRIER LATER THAT SAME DAY MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. ADDITIONALLY, BOTH MYSELF AND THE CAPT WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT.
